More About Lauren:
Lauren Plug is a sustainability writer, fantasy/mystery/thriller book lover, and sustainable imperfectionist. When she’s not chasing down tumbleweeds of cat fur with a vacuum, filling up her data storage with cat pictures, or committing to Spanish fluency, she’s helping sustainable brands navigate the confusing and tricky world of SEO and create helpful, inspiring, and relatable content.
Lauren’s intro to sustainability began when she sought a holistic doctor to help her treat severe lifelong acne that conventional doctors only wanted to treat through antibiotics and harsh chemicals. Through this she started learning about how everything we breathe, touch, and consume impacts our health and body.
Through seeking out more natural, healing skincare products she walked into her first co-op and experienced the magic of eco-friendly and human-friendly products. As she began to experiment, she realized the products available to her weren’t always the most functional, but she knew there had to be more brands and other products out there.
But where were they?
Google search after Google search was either getting her nowhere or getting her in front of brands whose messaging didn’t feel… welcoming. By this point, the 2020 pandemic was underway and her professional life was turned upside down. Having always loved writing and storytelling, Lauren had a feeling she could help sustainable businesses get more visibility with conscious consumers like her who were looking for them! So Copy by LP was born!
In the past 3 years, Lauren has been able to work with all kinds of sustainable brands to grow their audience, reach conscious consumers, and continue being a positive force in the industry. A few years into her business, she had enough with the SEO industry that was obsessed with ‘hacks’ and ‘tricks’ and frankly, slightly unethical behavior. She sought out other women in the industry and since then is committed to helping small businesses tackle SEO in a sustainable, ethical, and long-term way.
As a sustainable consumer and industry professional we all suffer from eco-anxiety and eco-overwhelm. Lauren’s best piece of advice is to find a local community of like-minded people and get involved in some way, shape, or form!
A couple of fun facts about Lauren:
- She’s a heritage Spanish speaker (meaning it’s her mom’s native language and she doesn’t speak it, AKA a no sabo kid) who’s working to get to Spanish fluency!
- She’s creating a podcast (coming soon) to give a platform to small, sustainable business owners while creating a community for imperfect sustainability.
- She’s allergic to cats but has 2 long-haired angels and insists she’s less allergic to her own cats.
- Could never have imagined how many nice sustainably minded and genuinely cool business owners she’d meet by starting her own business.
