Medley is one of our top picks for non-toxic sofas and other furniture for several reasons:
- everything is PFAS-free
- they carry many different natural fabrics
- you can get natural latex cushions if you choose
- and they have plenty of options to choose from in terms of color and style
But what good is having a non-toxic sofa if it’s not comfortable and functional?
I wanted to test Medley out for myself, to see how it feels, how high-quality it is, how it holds up with my pets, and more.
(Spoiler: I love it. I’ll tell you why below.)

Some quick notes about Medley
First let me tell you a little bit about Medley and why they’re a good choice for non-toxic furniture.
Materials & Safety:
- Medley sofas are available in two cushion options:
- Certified organic (GOLS) natural latex + wool
- Polyurethane foam + polyester
- None of them contain any flame retardants or VOC glues.
- For fabrics, you can choose from natural & organic options or synthetic (but again, they are all PFAS-free).
- The frames are made from solid wood with natural or zero-VOC finishes, and lined with organic cotton.
- Medley’s materials are backed by third-party certifications including GOLS, GOTS, OEKO-TEX® 100, GREENGUARD Gold, CertiPUR-US®, and FSC-certified wood. They are also California Prop 65 compliant.
Design & Options:
One of my favorite things about Medley is the customizability. You can get a 100% natural sofa if you want one, or you can mix in some synthetics if you want to save money, if you have a latex allergy, or some other reason.
- They offer a lot of furniture:
- Seating (loveseats, sofas, sectionals, sleeper sofas, ottomans, and accent chairs)
- Storage (dressers, bookshelves, credenzas)
- Tables (accent, end, coffee, nightstand)
- Beds (frames & mattresses)
- Dining (tables & chairs)
- For the couches, they have leather options available, including vegetable-tanned, chrome-free leather. (It’s so hard to find a vegetable-tanned sofa!)
- You can get PFAS-free stain-resistant fabrics if you have pets or kids.
- And you can order free fabric swatches and an optional sample kit to check materials before buying.
Price & Financing:
- At the time of publication, prices start at $2,195 for the sofas.
- Financing is available through Affirm (starting at 0% interest).
Shipping & Returns:
- Made in the USA (Los Angeles, California).
- Ships to the U.S., Canada, and beyond.
- 15-day trial and return policy.

What I got
I got the 84” Rio Sofa & ottoman with latex cushions, solid maple wood legs, and Willow Chenille fabric in the Lichen color.
The Willow Chenille fabric is polyester. I went with that option over one of the natural ones because I have three pets. The Willow Chenille has a very high “rub count,” which means it’s meant to be super durable. It’s also treated with a PFAS-free stain resistant finish. Even though it’s synthetic, I wanted to get something that would last a really long time, and could hold up against my furry family’s wear and tear. Also, it might be worth noting that the fabric is GREENGUARD Gold Certified.
My thoughts on the Medley sofa
Delivery & setup process
Delivery went smoothly. The drivers gave me a call when they were on their way, so I was able to be at the door and ready for them! They unboxed the pieces in their truck, then professionally carried it inside and set it up where I asked them to. It was important that I had the space already cleared because they cannot move existing furniture.
I did not notice any smells when I first got it! So, it’s probably a good option for folks with chemical sensitivities.

Comfort & feel & look
I can say that the sofa is comfortable!
The firmness level is supportive. It’s more on the firmer side—I don’t sink into it, but it’s COZY. When my friends and family visit, they comment either how comfortable it is, how beautiful it is, or both. It’s a great napping spot (especially if you are a pet!).
(As a reminder, I got the GOLS-certified organic latex cushions. If you have latex sensitivities, want to save a little bit of money, or want something a little bit less firm, you can choose poly foam instead. You can read more about the difference here.)
The fabric is my favorite part about the couch. As an artist, I pay a lot of attention to textile quality. I love the soft, buttery texture. I default to filling my space with color, but the willow chenille is neutral and flexible enough to go with any palette. It dropped into my existing rug & curtain combo with no problem—I did not style the room around this sofa!
The structural integrity speaks to its high value. It is (very) heavy and sturdy, zero creaking or wobbling, and no budging or sliding around!

Wear & tear
As I mentioned, I have three pets: a big, long-haired white dog (a Great Pyrenees named Frida), and two black cats named Marcel and Stick. And yes, they are all allowed on the couch. 😆
We’ve only used it for a few months so far, but it seems nearly impossible to snag. My cats are deterred from scratching the sofa, but when I do occasionally catch them in the crime, it remains looking untouched. So far, I have had zero issues with anything staining the sofa or anything weird going on with the fabric. For the pet hair? Brushes right off. Coffee spills? Quick blot with a damp rag, gone.
I will be sure to update this article after I’ve had the couch for a couple of years and let you know how it’s holding up after a longer period of time! (At the time of this publication, I’ve had the sofa for about 4 months.)

Medley Pros & Cons (in a nutshell!)
Pros:
- Gorgeous, well designed
- Truly natural & non-toxic options
- Suitable for folks with chemical sensitivities
- Good option for people with kids & pets (PFAS-free stain resistant options)
- Comfy!
- You can tell the materials & construction are high-quality and meant to last
- Plenty of options to choose from, so you can get the perfect size & design for your space
Cons:
- They’re more expensive than your standard conventional sofa from Ashley Furniture or whatever.
- Because of the customization and made-to-order nature, it can take a while for the sofa to arrive. It can vary depending on what exactly you order, but a typical lead time is around 5-6 weeks (for sofas).
- The value comes with natural difficulties, like how heavy the furniture is. Even the ottoman is super heavy.
Don’t forget: if you decide to buy a Medley, you can use the code THEFILTERY5 for 5% off.
