If I had to come up with one phrase to describe Annmarie, it would be “sophisticated hippie.” 🌿 It is one of the most plant-forward, nature-centric skincare brands I’ve tried, and the smell of the some of the products give off that classic hippie vibe, if you know what I mean.

But at the same time, their products are luxurious and very high-quality. When I say ‘hippie,’ it’s not like a 90’s crunchy, DIY feel. (Not saying 90’s crunch/DIY is a bad thing; I’m just trying to give you a sense of the brand!)

In this Annmarie skincare review, I’m giving you a brief rundown on the brand as a whole (including pros & cons), followed by my honest thoughts on all of the skincare products I’ve tried so far.

A collection of nine small skincare bottles and jars from Annmarie, labeled as a Clean Beauty Trial Set, displayed on a bathroom counter near a sink with a beige tiled wall in the background.

Annmarie pros & cons

Annmarie was actually started by two healthy living bloggers (represent!) in 2009.

The process of making their products doesn’t just involve mixing a bunch of ingredients together; they actually infuse their hand-picked herbs into the oils for 30 days. This makes for a more potent base that can more easily deliver the plant benefits to your skin.

They’re committed to a transparent supply chain, and there a bunch of ingredients they never use.

I really like how they use a lot of different, unique plants that I honestly haven’t really seen used much in skincare products before!

Here are my pros & cons in a nutshell:

Pros:

  • All natural ingredients (and many are organic)
  • Products for a variety of skin types (mature, oily, sensitive, etc.)
  • Focus on wildcrafted, hand-picked ingredients.
  • Many of their products are MADE SAFE certified
  • Leaping Bunny certified cruelty-free
  • Made in the USA; small, family-owned
  • They offer free skin consultations if you need help choosing what’s best for you
  • 100% Happiness Guarantee (30 day returns if you don’t like anything)

Cons:

  • Not for people who prefer totally unscented skincare products
  • Not budget-friendly
  • They have a lot of products, so it can be overwhelming to choose. (But you should just take their Skin Quiz and/or sign up for Skin Consultation.

My skin type, preferences, & what I tried

My skin type is ‘normal/mixed.’ It doesn’t get super oily, nor does it get super dry. I’m in my mid-30s so I’m definitely seeing those fine lines and wrinkles show up, and I haven’t done any injectables.

I personally prefer to use minimal oily products in the mornings; I just don’t really like the way it feels on my face during the day.

I actually tried a bunch of their minis and travel-sized stuff so that I could try different products without having to spend a fortune. Worth noting because the packaging you see in my photos is different than what you’ll get if you buy the actual product.

I focused on skincare for this review, but Annmarie also carries body care, haircare, a few fragrances, and more.

Where to buy Annmarie skin care

If after reading this review, you decide to try Annmarie for yourself, here’s where you can get it:

Now let’s get to the products I tried and my thoughts:

Aloe Herb Cleanser

A hand holds a 1 oz bottle of Annmarie Aloe Herb Cleanser on a granite countertop, with another small bottle and packaging visible in the background.

This cleanser is a very gentle milky face wash. It’s kind of a cross between a regular ‘soapy’ face wash and an oil cleanser. It doesn’t lather really, but just gently dissolves makeup and other impurities from the day, without drying out the skin.

It utilizes ingredients like aloe vera leaf juice, calendula, coconut oil, and lemon essential oil to brighten and soothe the skin at the same time.

I personally prefer a more soapy, lathery face wash when it comes to taking the day off my skin, but I totally see why someone would love a cleanser like this. I have actually been using it in the morning, and I really like it for that.

It has a bright and refreshing smell to it that I like.

Botanical Hydration Mist with Immortelle

A hand holds a small black bottle labeled Annmarie Botanical Hydration Mist with Immortelle for face and body, against a granite countertop background.

Okay, I do like this mist but let me give you a bit of a ‘warning’ about the smell. It’s a nostalgic scent to me because it reminds me of the horse barns I spent my childhood in.

Yes: it smells like hay. It’s the Helichrysum italicum, aka Immortelle. It’s kind of a polarizing scent that you’ll probably either love or hate.

The reason they use it for this mist is because it has a lot of anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. In fact, in some types of traditional medicine, it’s been long used for wound healing.

Other than that, it’s got chamomile, rose, and frankincense, which I think helps balance out the smell a little bit. But I mean, the ‘hay’ smell is definitely still prominent.

Personally, I really like this mist and I use it as a toner after my cleanser and before my serum or moisturizer. But again: it’s got a nostalgic smell for me and I have no idea if you’d like it or not.

Radiant-C Mask & Polish

This a powder that you mix with water (1 tsp of each) to make a face mask.

I’m definitely a fan of this mask. The texture stays gritty the whole time—it doesn’t fully dissolve—so you get a lot of exfoliation as you put it on and as you take it off. (The Aloe Herb Cleanser takes it off nicely.)

It’s the kind of mask that hardens as it dries on your face, making your face feel low-key paralyzed. But if you want something less intense, you can also mix it with other things too—like honey, their pearl mask (below), or your favorite cleanser. This can help to basically help it to stay on the softer side.

It’s got a lot of antioxidant and vitamin C-rich herb and fruit extracts, including hibiscus, acerola cherry, kakadu plum, camu camu, goji berry, amla berry, strawberry, seabuckthorn fruit, and lemon peel powders! This ultimately leads to a lot of natural brightening powers that can help even out dark spots and even out your skin’s texture.

It does have a slight smell to it, but it’s not strong. I think it’s the hibiscus and/or cherry that I’m smelling because it’s kind of fruity. I like it! It’s different than any other masks I’ve tried.

I would say probably be careful about getting this mask on fabrics. It’s a pretty deep red, so I bet it can stain.

My skin feels the softest after using this mask. I will definitely re-buy this one. I think it’s one of my favorite Annmarie products I’ve tried.

Illuminating Pearl Mask

A hand holds an open jar of creamy beige skincare product over a granite countertop, with a cardboard box and two dark bottles visible in the background.

This mask is gentler than the Radiant-C Mask & Polish. It does not need to be mixed with water; it comes ready to apply. It has a creamy, gel-like consistency and goes on smoothly. It also doesn’t make your face feel hard as you leave it on like the Radiant-C one does.

It still makes a noticeable difference in the way my skin feels when I rinse it off, though! This one is more of a hydrator than an exfoliator, so you can safely use it in the morning if you want to.

It’s got ‘mountain wildflower honey’ from Colorado, turmeric for inflammation control, licorice root extract and uva ursi for skin illumination, and pearl powder for antioxidants!

The smell of this one is not super strong. It’s nice though—kind of relaxing.

Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant

A hand holds a small brown bottle labeled Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant, Honey-Derived Evening Treatment, 0.2 fl oz / 5 mL by Annmarie. Other bottles and items are visible on a granite countertop.

This exfoliant is a little bit intense (as most resurfacing exfoliants are). They recommend doing a patch test before trying it for the first time (which I did) and only using it at night (since resurfacing can make your skin more sensitive to sun or environmental damage).

It has a slight burn when you put it on… which I kind of like because it means it’s working. But if you have sensitive skin, you might want to be mindful of this. And don’t get it around your eyes!

For the resurfacing, they use honey-derived lactic acid, which can help target dark spots and wrinkles. But then they combine it with cucumber extract and blue tansy to soothe the skin at the same time.

You can smell the blue tansy in this one, but it’s subtle.

One time I actually did the Radiant C Mask/Polish and then immediately followed with the Resurfacing Exfoliant… I don’t think my face had been that soft since I was a baby. 😆

Activated Hemp Serum

A hand holds a small black bottle labeled Annmarie Activated Hemp Serum against a granite countertop. Other similar bottles are blurred in the background. The bottle contains 0.21 fl oz or 5 mL.

This serum uses hemp oil that’s derived from the whole hemp flower. It’s rich in CBG, antioxidants, terpenes, and essential fatty acids, all of which can help to hydrate, balance, and soothe the skin.

It’s also got polyphenol-rich mangosteen oil, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a skincare product before to be honest, and black cumin seed oil, which reduces oily skin and clogged pores and also comes with a bunch of vitamins and nutrients.

I’d say the texture of this one is mid-weight for a serum. It’s on the creamier side, but not super thick. It’s a good daytime serum that can help protect against environmental exposures.

It’s also good for all skin types, including aging skin, acne-prone skin, and/or sensitive skin.

The scent of this one is a bit earthy, but it’s brighter. It’s different, but nice!

Anti-Aging Serum

A hand holds a small brown glass bottle labeled annmarie ANTI-AGING SERUM Hydrating Facial Serum 0.2 fl. oz./5 mL over a granite countertop. Another small bottle and packaging are visible in the background.

This is a plant-heavy serum! They pack a lot of different herbs and other plants into this powerful serum, including:

  • life everlasting flowers (abundant in natural fatty acids)
  • rose hydrosol (to help reduce redness)
  • buddleja extract (lots of antioxidants)
  • calendula (good for inflammation and healing)
  • and honestly so many more!

Plus, it’s got hyaluronic acid to help reduce fine lines & wrinkles and make the skin more supple.

The scent of this one is a bit strong, and I honestly, I didn’t love it at first. But then the more I used it, it grew on me. It’s another earthy smell, but different than the other ones I’ve described so far. I’m pretty sure it’s the vetiver root oil.

This is one of their best selling bestselling serum blends, and when I look at the ingredient list, I can see why. They are really trying to maximize as much plant power inside of one serum with this!

Wild Fruit Serum

A hand is holding a small 0.2 fl oz (5 mL) black bottle of Annmarie Wild Fruit Serum, labeled as a Brightening Facial Complex, over a granite countertop.

If you want a good daytime serum that does NOT have an earthy smell, then go with this one. As the name hints, the smell is very fruity and sweet. I like it! And it’s a great daytime serum that’s rich in vitamin C for protection against the elements.

It has aloe-steeped apple extract is made in-house at low heat (!!), which gives you a dose of high-quality and all-natural vitamin C and malic acid (both of which can improve skin texture).

It also uses madonna lily plant cells to increase the skin’s resilience, kakadu plum extract for even more vitamin C, and knotweed extract, which is rich in resveratrol.

Brighten Vitamin C With Seabuckthorn

A hand holds a small brown glass dropper bottle labeled BRIGHTEN over a granite countertop with several other small skincare bottles and containers scattered nearby.

So the two serums above both have relatively strong scents, but this one barely has a smell at all. So if you’re looking for an all-natural, unscented vitamin C serum that has very minimal ingredients, then this one is for you.

It literally only has three things in it: jojoba seed oil, vitamin C (in the form of THDA), and seabuckthorn berry CO2 fruit extract.

This one is a bit more oily than the previous two serums. Still pretty lightweight, though! It’s concentrated, so you really only need a few drops.

This one is MADE SAFE certified as well.

Rejuvenating Facial Oil

A hand is holding a small dark bottle labeled annmarie Rejuvenating Facial Oil against a granite countertop background. A few other small bottles and caps are visible on the counter.

I don’t typically like using facial oils in the morning (I don’t like way they weigh my face down during the day), but I actually really like this one. It’s lightweight enough for me.

The ‘star’ ingredient is butterfly pea flowers, which contain a lot of polyphenols, flavonoids, and antioxidants. It also uses mongongo oil which contains linoleic acid and magnesium and can help with a bunch of different things, from elasticity and hydration to texture improvement.

You can smell the blue tansy in this one as well, but it’s not overpowering. I like it.

Anti-Aging Facial Oil

A set of four skincare products labeled Clean Beauty Trial Set is displayed on a white tray atop a granite counter. The set includes cleanser, serum, facial oil, and a small sample vial. A bathroom mirror is in the background.

This oil is a little bit heavier than the last one; I’ve only been using this one at night.

This is another customer favorite and just like the anti-aging serum, it’s got a TON of plant ingredients in it. Goji berries! Elderberry! Gingko leaf! Hibiscus! Lemon balm! Broccoli!

Together, all of these ingredients deliver a bunch of anti-aging and protective antioxidants and nutrients that help to keep dry and mature skin supple and dewy.

The smell is on the stronger side. It’s bright and kind of sweet. It has a fruity vibe, although it’s not as fruity as the smell of the Wild Fruit Serum. I think it’s probably the goji berries and/or hibiscus that I’m smelling the most, although I’m not sure.

Also, Annmarie does have quite a few different oils and elixirs to choose from, so if you need help deciding which one is best for you, here is a handy table to help:

My overall thoughts:

As you can see, I’m a fan! Even though there are a few specific products I didn’t love, I would totally re-purchase other things from Annmarie.

If you’re someone who really likes plants—gardening, herbal teas and tinctures, diffusing essential oils, things like that—then I’d say Annmarie is definitely worth a try for you. Many of their products have pretty ‘earthy’ scents, but they simultaneously have an opulent, sophisticated feel.
