I was a Beautycounter brand advocate for 8 years, which was really the start of my venture into clean/nontoxic products. I originally became a consultant not just to make money, but because I LOVED their products and I knew I’d tell everyone about them. I was excited about their drive to change the personal care product industry for the better for everyone!
So when Beautycounter sadly stopped manufacturing new products this past spring, I had to go on a massive hunt for new skincare! This is when I realized how spoiled I was by their high performing products.
I wanted something that was clean, relatively affordable, and felt luxurious (just like Beautycounter had been for me! 😩)
Enter: DIME! I had to give it a try and see how it could stack up.
If you aren’t already familiar with it, DIME Beauty is a non-toxic skincare, body care, fragrance, and beauty brand making great alternatives to traditional products that are simultaneously effective and approachable. They are one of the most affordable, higher-performing clean brands on the market and, to give you a spoiler: I’m now a fan.

Here’s a bit of a breakdown on the brand and what they’ve got going on:
Vegan/Cruelty-Free? Yes, Leaping Bunny certified.
EWG-Verified? Kinda. Not all of their products are EWG verified, but quite a few are. They also have a tool on their website where they list ingredients for each product and then you can click an individual ingredient name to see the EWG score and what its function is in the product. DIME has informed me that they are in the process of verifying ALL of their products with EWG, but that it just takes time (it’s quite a process!). They told me that if everything goes according to plan, they expect all of their products to be EWG Verified within the next 1-3 years.
USA-Made? Yes, mostly. All of their skincare products are made and shipped from Utah. The volume mascara and power patches are made overseas at an FDA-approved manufacturer because of the specific machinery needed to make them.
P.S. If you’re already ready to buy, you can use the code THEFILTERY for 20% off.
Or, if you want to buy DIME at a retailer, here’s where you can find it:

Is DIME really a “clean” brand?
DIME advertises itself as a “clean” brand, and in many ways, they are! You won’t find any of the “worst” ingredients in any of DIME’s products, including phthalates, parabens, and any of the ingredients on EWG’s banned list.
They are also committed to transparently disclosing 100% of their ingredients, and they also utilize glass and recycled packaging.
BUT with as much greenwashing that happens these days, I wanted to know if there are any “iffy” ingredients used in DIME’s products as well. Here’s what I discovered:
- They do use phenoxyethanol as a preservative in some of their products. This is perhaps the most controversial ingredient in the world of clean beauty! It’s definitely not one of the worst ingredients by any means, but some folks choose to avoid or minimize it. (Members: you can read a deep dive into phenoxyethanol here.)
- It is worth noting, however, that DIME never goes above the 1% phenoxyethanol concentration in their formulations, which is the important thing!
- DIME also told me that they regularly batch test their products for contaminants, which is great considering that one of the concerns with phenoxyethanol is potential contamination of 1,4 dioxane and/or ethylene oxide.
- I’ve noted below which of the products I tried contain phenoxyethanol.
- They also use a few couple of other ingredients that the *most strict* among us may prefer to avoid or minimize. For example, the Luminosity Eye Serum contains ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP copolymer which may or may not be considered a microplastic. As far as we know, these types of ingredients are safe for humans but could potentially contribute to the wider microplastic problem. Unfortunately, we just don’t really know yet. (Again, let us know if you’d like to see a deep dive into the issue of microplastics in skincare!)
Personally, these ingredients don’t worry me. (Beautycounter used phenoxyethanol as well and it didn’t bother me). But at the end of the day, you’ll have to decide for yourself!
My Honest thoughts after using DIME’s products
Cleansing Balm

Lauren’s Review:
As a former Beautycounter consultant and cleansing balm lover, I was most excited to get my hands on this cleanser.
For those of you who are into the cleansing balm style face wash, this is nice. The balm melts right into your skin as you massage it in, and it feels very moisturizing while it’s breaking down your makeup and grime from the day.
It has a faint to nearly-not-there smell, and it’s a very creamy oil balm. It did a fantastic job getting their mascara off my lashes.
Would I re-buy it? Yes, I’ll be recommending this to all my friends looking for a new cleansing balm for sure!
Gentle Jelly Cleanser

Abbie’s Review:
I really love this cleanser—it’s actually one of my new favorite face washes.
The texture is the perfect middle ground between an oil cleanser and a more soapy face wash. It’s got a gentle, gel-like texture (hence the name, lol), but then it also lathers moderately well at the same time.
It easily doubles as a makeup remover, leaving my face feeling super clean at the end of the day, without feeling dried out at all.
The ingredient list is pretty minimal. It’s EWG Verified. It’s got a light, refreshing scent, which comes from the strawberry oil. But as someone who is sensitive to strong scents, it doesn’t bother me at all.
I also like how this would make a great face wash for the whole family—men, women, teens, etc.
This only ingredient worth noting here is hydrolyzed wheat protein—those with wheat allergies might want to avoid or be mindful of this one.
Would I re-buy it? Absolutely.
Hyper Glow Serum

Lauren’s Review:
I tried several of DIME’s serums, and this is probably my favorite of all of them. (And really, it’s probably my second favorite product I tried overall (second to the mascara, of course! More on that below.)
The Hyper Glow Serum is DIME’s vitamin c brightening serum. It contains 15% vitamin c (l-ascorbic acid) to lighten hyperpigmentation, tighten skin, and fight against free-radical damage.
I did notice visible improvement in the brightness of my skin, and like all their serums, it’s quick absorbing and light on your skin. For the price, I think this is a fantastic vitamin c skin boosting option!
This one does contain phenoxyethanol.
Would I re-buy it? Yes!
TBT Serum

Lauren’s Review:
The “turn back time” (TBT) products are from DIME’s anti-aging skincare system. They utilize bakuchiol (the big name clean alternative ingredient to retinol) and mandelic acid, which acts as a chemical exfoliant to react with the skin and remove layers of dead skin.
Overall, this is advertised to reduce the appearance of skin damage or dark spots and tighten and brighten your skin. Since I used this in conjunction with all of these other products at the same time, I can’t speak to it alone—but my skin reacted very well and was overall happy from using this!
Abbie’s Review:
This is a very lightweight anti-aging serum that absorbs practically instantly. I appreciate this because I can easily layer it with other products and use it in the morning under makeup.
I agree with Lauren that it’s difficult to tell how well it really works in the longterm when using it in conjunction with other skincare products. Bbut overall, I do really like the way it makes my skin feel and I think the ingredients make for a great addition to a holistic anti-aging routine.
It does have a very slight scent to it (which comes from the ingredients, not added fragrance), but I honestly don’t notice it unless I’m actively paying attention.
EWG Verified.
Contains phenoxyethanol.
Would I re-buy it? Yes.
Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Abbie’s Review:
I’m all about the hyaluronic acid serums for anti-aging. This one contains only a few ingredients. It has a light, jelly texture that goes on smoothly and absorbs quickly. You can layer it under pretty much anything—whether other skincare products and/or makeup.
It definitely delivers a boost of hydration and plumpness to my skin. I personally use it in the morning and/or at night.
It’s EWG Verified and unscented.
It does contain phenoxyethanol.
Would I re-buy this? Yes.
Blue Facial Oil

Abbie’s Review:
Everyone is all about the blue tansy skincare these days, and I have gotten on board!
This natural, EWG Verified facial oil is filled with several different plant oils—including meadowfoam, rosehip, and of course blue tansy—which help to protect against free radicals and prevent fine lines and wrinkles.
Blue tansy specifically is usually used to help with redness and irritation. It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, but is gentle enough for sensitive skin.
I usually use this oil at nighttime. I would say it’s in the ‘midweight’ category. It’s not super heavy, but it’s too greasy for the daytime for me personally. I do really like the way it makes my skin feel—it’s definitely softer and calmer. And it smells really nice too, as most blue tansy products do.
It does come out blue, as you can see in the photo, but don’t worry: it rubs in clear. It doesn’t leave your skin blue or anything! 😆
Would I re-buy this? Definitely.
Dewy Day Cream

Abbie’s Review:
This is actually one of my favorite DIME products in terms of performance. I’m pretty picky about the weight and texture of my daytime moisturizers, and I really like this one. It’s lightweight and absorbs nicely, but definitely leaves my face feeling moisturized. I think it’s a great option for a variety of skin types and seasons of the year.
There is one ‘iffy’ ingredient in this, which is carbomer. This is an ingredient that could be a liquid plastic. From a human safety POV, there are not really any concerns (it does not absorb through the skin), but it’s currently unclear whether or not this synthetic polymer can truly biodegrade all the way once it’s in the environment. Questionable liquid plastics in personal care products is a topic I’m keeping my eye on.
It is EWG Verified.
Would I re-buy this? If it weren’t for the carbomer, then it would be a heck yes. But there are other lightweight face moisturizers on the market that I would buy first.
TBT Cream

Lauren’s Review:
Another “turn back time” product, this cream is thick in the best way. It goes on and feels like it’s truly sealing off your skin to hold in the moisture overnight.
There’s no fragrance in this one (not even from essential oils), so it is a great option for those of you who are sensitive to smells. It’s also a great option for men in that sense! Despite the thickness of the cream, it absorbs quickly into the skin and leaves your skin feeling glowy and hydrated.
Would I re-buy it? Yes.
TBT® Eye Cream

Abbie’s Review:
This is one of DIME’s newer products, and I was excited to try it because I feel like my eyes are one of the first places that I notice tiredness or aging on myself.
This eye cream has bakuchiol (the clean retinol alternative), which helps to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as squalane for hydration and chlorella to encourage plumpness and hydration.
It actually has a cooling sensation when you put it on, which feels really nice and rejuvenating. So, even though the directions say to use it at night, I actually like to use it in the morning too to help ‘wake my eyes up.’ It’s definitely lightweight enough to wear in the daytime, too.
A little goes a long way. And it’s unscented.
Would I re-buy it? Yes, I think so!
Restorative Night Cream

Abbie’s Review:
This Night Cream is actually very similar to the Dewy Day Cream in terms of the formulation, but with some additions that make it thicker and more moisturizing:
- It’s got several extra plant lipids, including shea butter, camellia oil, jojoba oil, sea buckthorn oil
- and it’s got a few extra ingredients for nighttime repair for collagen stimulation, like palmitoyl tripeptide-38
Overall, I like the way this moisturizer feels. It’s on the heavier side, as you’d expect a nighttime cream to be, but it also absorbs nicely and makes my skin noticeably plumper and more moisturized.
Would I re-buy it? Probably not. It’s not bad, but it’s got carbomer in it (same potential problem as the Dewy Day Cream) and there are just other night creams I’d probably buy first. (This one, for example, is one I like that’s similar to the DIME in price range.)
Plus, I’d rather use a night cream that has more anti-aging ingredients, whether that’s bakuchiol or something else.
Acne Toning Serum

Lauren’s Review:
Typically my skin is pretty “normal”—not too oily or too dry. But I do have an on-again, off-again relationship with breakouts, so I was eager to test DIME’s Acne Toning Serum.
It’s targeted for oily skin, both to help clear up current breakouts and reduce the likeliness of future breakouts. It does utilize salicylic acid, which, although a very effective ingredient for acne, is not without its problems. When using a product with salicylic acid, you’ll want to:
- Use it intentionally (don’t overdo it)
- Be mindful of your own allergies or sensitivities, paying attention to how your skin reacts
- Make sure the other ingredients in the product are non-toxic as well, since salicylic acid is a penetration enhancer.
For those reasons, I personally will be using the Acne Toning Serum as needed, whenever I am trying to tamp down a breakout or notice one coming on! Other than that, my take is that the formula is quick-absorbing with faint to zero smell.
It’s a great size bottle, too—about double the size of their other serums at the same price point.
Would I re-buy it? Yes.
Super Firm Serum

Abbie’s Review:
This serum is kind of weird and I don’t know how to feel about it.
First let me tell you about the concept: It’s got a bunch of hydrating and protecting ingredients that you’d expect an eye cream to have, including several peptides. But then it also has leucojum bulb extract in it, which actually ‘limits muscle contractions’ and tightens the skin—this is how it helps to prevent fine lines and wrinkles, especially crow’s feet.
Now for my experience:
First, the dispenser is not ideal. I have it in a dropper with a squeeze vial and it doesn’t always come out well, I think because it separates in the bottle. So I’ve had to kind of try to mix it up in the bottle and kind of squeeze and re-squeeze the dropper a few times in order to get it to be the consistency I think it’s supposed to be.
But here’s my biggest problem: it flakes. You put it on your eyes and it truly does firm, tighten, and limit movement to the skin. It dries quickly, but then later, if I try to put another product over it or put makeup on, it will kind of peel off. It doesn’t do it as much ever since I started mixing it up better, but it’s still noticeable sometimes.
Would I re-buy it? Probably not, tbh. It’s too finicky for me.
Luminosity Eye Serum

Lauren’s Review:
This targets all the things we want when searching for an eye cream:it brightens dark circles, tightens, and de-puffs under your eyes.
It’s a very light formula that absorbs quickly. Like all of DIME’s products that I’ve tried, it just feels like high-quality skincare when you apply it.
Contains phenoxyethanol.
Would I re-buy it? No. In this area, I tend to want something I can see or feel results from quickly, and I didn’t get that from this one.
Volume Mascara (my favorite DIME product!)

Lauren’s Review:
Okay, this is where DIME shines. This mascara is fantastic on so many levels.
The formula is buildable, gives your lashes great separation, definition, and length, and holds up extremely well. I wouldn’t call it waterproof, but it’s pretty solidly water-resistant. I have worn it during very sweaty workouts, splashing in the pool with my kids, and out in the summer heat – and it stays put, no smearing under my eyes!!
Plus, there aren’t any even potentially concerning ingredients here. So in the clean beauty realm, this is a huge win.
Would I re-buy it? YES! Already have!
Eyelash Boost Serum

Abbie’s Review:
This Eyelash Boost serum is really popular; people love it. A lot of reviewers say they notice a difference in their lash thickness and length (usually after using it consistently for a few months).
It’s got ingredients like amino acids, vitamins, and active peptides that can help with follicle growth. It’s also EWG Verified, so you know there’s nothing too bad in the ingredients.
Personally, I have mixed thoughts. First, you should know that I’m terrible at using products like this consistently. It’s just not in my typical regimen and I have trouble remembering to apply it every day! If I ever manage to be consistent with it for several weeks at once, I’ll update this review to tell you if I really noticed a difference in my lashes.
But here are my few reservations:
- My eyes are a bit sensitive to it. It’s nothing extreme, but I can feel it. The directions say you can use this serum morning and night, but I only use it at night for this reason. (I think my eyes are more sensitive than average.)
- The directions also say “avoid direct contact with eyes.” I’m pretty sure brands just always put things like that on labels to protect themselves, but still… Why does it say that on a product that you’re literally putting ON your lash line? You’re GOING to get a small amount in your eyes…
- It does contain phenoxyethanol as a preservative. This is a controversial preservative in the non-toxic living space. I personally don’t have a big problem with it in general, but I would perhaps be a little more careful about using it regularly directly next to my eyeball. (That said, I definitely DO want a very effective preservative system for a product like this, so there’s a trade-off!)
All of that said, if you really want an eyelash growth serum, this is one of the cleanest ones on the market. The active ingredients do not come with the same risks that prostaglandin-based serums do.
As a side note, you could totally use this as an eyebrow serum too. And you wouldn’t have to worry about the eye contact if you did that.
Would I re-buy it? Probably not in the near future. But I also just don’t feel the need for it. If I was really struggling with lash growth, then I’d probably be more motivated to give it a better try.
Perfume & Cologne

- Uses non-denatured organic sugar cane alcohol
- Options for girls, guys, and gender-neutral
- Uses synthetic ingredients, but transparently lists them all
- So far, they have one EWG Verified™ option (the 7 Summers scent)
- Vegan & Cruelty-Free
- Offers a Sample Kit to help you choose your scent
My favorite scent so far: 7 Summers
My husband’s favorite: Voir Le Bon
Lauren A’s favorite: Running Late
This is a really great option for a cleaner perfume that’s much more affordable than the 100% natural options listed above. (Like, half the price or less!)
I actually really like DIME’s perfumes because they have unique and long-lasting scents, but they’re not too strong.
Not all of their fragrances are EWG Verified at this time, but the 7 Summers one is. (Many of their other skincare products are EWG Verified as well. A while ago, they told me they’re working on getting everything Verified; it just takes a while.) Everything is phthalate-free and paraben-free.
Many of their scents are targeted more towards women, but they do have a few men’s colognes as well.
They do use some ethoxylated ingredients, which come with contamination concerns. And some of the “safe synthetics” they use lack thorough safety data.
Abbie’s Review:
I’ve actually tried several of their scents now: I Love Your Smell Baby, Lovely Sweet Dreams, Dans Les Bois, and 7 Summers.
I really like and wear them all, but I think 7 Summers is still my favorite. If I had to summarize their vibes in the most concise terms, I’d say I Love Your Smell Baby is fruity, Lovely Sweet Dreams is floral, Dans Les Bois is more elevated & mature, and 7 Summers is just young & fresh. I’d say the first two are more feminine and the last two could pass as gender-neutral scents.
P.S. They also have a Signature Set Duo, which includes the 7 Summers and Dans Les Bois, which you can use as either a tester and/or a travel perfume.
Lauren’s Review:
As someone who is relatively sensitive to smells, I really like this perfume. It’s definitely noticeable, but not too strong. I chose the Running Late scent, which they describe as ‘a happy, energetic scent with citrus and floral notes.’
I wouldn’t say it’s gender-neutral, but it’s not super ‘girlie’ either. It’s a scent that works both for daytime or going out on the town at night.
Would I re-buy it? Yes! But I also might want to try some of the other scents next time, too.
“The Glaze” Body Oil

Abbie’s Review:
This lightweight body oil does exactly what you’d expect: hydrates without the heavy feel.
I genuinely like it. It moisturizes well and keeps my skin feeling hydrated for hours without any greasy residue weighing it down.
The formula is packed with antioxidant-rich plant oils known for their anti-inflammatory properties: apricot, argan, rosehip, almond, and jojoba. The one ingredient that’s not ideal is dimethicone—not a dealbreaker, but not the cleanest choice either. Everything else checks out.
The texture is slightly greasy (typical for body oils), but it absorbs reasonably well. You could use this morning or evening without issue.
It has a light, pleasant scent from plant extracts. It’s subtle enough that fragrance-sensitive people shouldn’t have problems. Not overpowering whatsoever.
The bottle is glass with a plastic pump top.
Would I repurchase? Hard to say. It’s not that I dislike it, but I would probably choose I a different body moisturizers first.
Whipped Body Exfoliator

Abbie’s Review:
I noticed a difference in how my skin felt immediately after using this—it was noticeably softer. So in general, I do like this product. It does a great job at exfoliating, but it’s not super harsh.
I think this could be a great option for folks with body acne because it contains lactic acid and salicylic acid.
It may be worth noting that it contains polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) as the “spherical cellulose beads.” PHB started being used in skincare as a replacement to conventional plastic microbeads.
DIME uses this ingredient instead of something like apricot or walnut powder, or coffee grounds, because it’s gentler on the skin and doesn’t produce microtears.
PHB is considered a polymer, but it is usually produced by fermenting sugars; it’s not derived from petrochemicals. It is biodegradable and generally considered non-toxic. But I’m calling it out because it’s one of those ingredients that exists in a sort of gray area. It’s a new thing in skincare and we don’t have a ton of data on it. (For example, is it truly non-toxic for everyone and at every stage of its lifecycle? I don’t know if we can be 100% sure of that yet.)
It’s not something I’m super concerned about at this time, but it is something I’m keeping my eye on.
Contains phenoxyethanol.
DIME Biome Body Butter

Abbie’s Review:
This is branded as a “Biome” butter thanks to lactococcus ferment lysate, a probiotic lysate meant to support your skin’s microbiome. I’m honestly a bit skeptical that adding probiotics to topical products delivers the benefits we’re hoping for, BUT I do appreciate the growing focus on microbiome health—from gut to skin to oral care.
Beyond the probiotic angle, the formula includes genuinely nourishing ingredients like shea butter and vitamins A and E.
Unfortunately, it also contains polyacrylamide crosspolymer-6 (a synthetic polymer), plus dimethicone, phenoxyethanol, and carbomer—all of which carry potential manufacturing contamination concerns. These aren’t total dealbreakers, but they’re not ideal either.
The texture lands somewhere between lotion and traditional body butter. I’d call it mid-weight. It’s thick enough to feel moisturizing but absorbs well without leaving a greasy film, making it versatile for morning or evening use. The consistency is notably smooth.
The scent is barely there: just hints of shea butter with something slightly citrusy. Nearly unscented overall.
It comes in a glass jar with a plastic lid, giving it a minimalist, semi-luxe feel.
Would I repurchase? Probably not. While I genuinely enjoy using it, those few questionable ingredients mean I’d opt for a cleaner body butter next time. That said, the concerns aren’t significant enough to stop me from finishing what I have.
Dewy Recovery Mask

Abbie’s Review:
Overall, I really like this product from a user perspective. It’s not what you’d usually think of when you think of a face mask—it’s more of a thick moisturizer feel.
You can either use it as a regular mask where you put it on for 15-20 minutes and then wash it off for a quick dose of hydration, or you can use it as an overnight mask and then rinse it off in the morning. (I’ve used it both ways.)
The star ingredients are snow mushroom extract, which “holds 500x its weight in water for deep hydration,” NAD+, which supports DNA repair, and vitamin C, which of course helps with skin brightening and protection against toxicants.
I can definitely attest to the fact that my skin feels noticeable softer and more plump after using this mask. It makes for a nice skin-pick-me-up in the morning, but I’ve also used it as a nighttime moisturizer. I was a little afraid it might stain my pillowcase because it doesn’t really soak into your skin all the way, but I haven’t noticed that happening at all.
All of that said, there are a few ingredients in this product that I don’t love… Mainly a few liquid plastics (or ‘might-be’ liquid plastics): Dimethicone, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, and Isododecane. These are not traditional plastics and they aren’t necessarily toxic while we have them on our skin. But there are questions about whether or not they can truly biodegrade, or whether they simply contribute to our growing micro/nanoplastic problem. If you want to learn more, here’s a podcast episode I did about it.
It also may be worth noting that this contains caprylhydroxamic acid, which can be an allergen for people with very sensitive skin.
Would I repurchase? Unfortunately, probably not. I do like the way it makes my skin feel, but I’m trying to reduce the amount of (potential) liquid plastics that I have in my cabinet.
Other DIME products you might want to know about
I haven’t tried all of DIME’s products (they carry a lot), but they also carry:
- tinted SPF moisturizer
- body serums and creams
- Lip balm
- and more
They also make it super easy to shop according to your specific concerns (Anti-Aging, Acne, Dark Spots, etc).
Or, if you’re not sure which products would be best for you, take their Skin Quiz!
My thoughts overall: Is DIME beauty worth it?
Overall, DIME has some wonderful products at great price points. I do think DIME is worth a try if you’re looking for that lower price point that still feels luxurious on your skin, especially if you’re someone without many skincare pain points you need addressed. However, the mascara will live in my regimen forever…. I’ve already bought several more myself!
DIME pros & cons in a nutshell
What I like about DIME:
- A great option for folks with sensitivities (none of their skincare products contain added fragrance of any kind!)
- Gender-neutral (it’s great for the guys, too!)
- Even though it’s not the most affordable non-toxic skincare brand out there, I think the prices are very reasonable for how luxurious it feels
- It’s available at Ulta if you’d rather shop in-store
- The mascara is literally my new favorite—I absolutely love it!
Potential downsides:
- If you’re looking for something that’s 100% natural/organic, DIME isn’t for you.
- If you’re someone who completely avoids phenoxyethanol, you’ll want to check each DIME product before purchasing (some of them contain this preservative and others don’t)
Overall, this is a brand I feel great recommending to friends looking for luxurious-feeling skincare that fits the non-toxic bill, as well. And I do really love the price point.
Don’t forget: you can use the code THEFILTERY for 20% off your order!
Or if you’d rather buy it from a retailer, you can grab it from Amazon or Ulta.
