Maybe you deal with chronic body pain.

Maybe you’re pregnant.

Maybe your partner snores a lot so you need something quieter to snuggle with. 😆

Whatever your reason is for wanting an organic body pillow, I got you.

Conventional pillows are most commonly made of plastics like polyurethane (PU) foam or polyester. As you sleep, and as your body heats up that material, small microplastics and other toxicants like VOCs can slowly be released into the air around you, where you then breathe them in.

Sleeping on a plastic pillow sometimes isn’t going to kill you, of course. But when you consider the number of hours you might spend with your body right next to that pillow, night after night, then it’s worth considering a non-toxic one.

We can’t control all of our toxic exposures, but changes like this can add up to make a significant difference over the long run.

With this guide, I’m hoping to cut down on the time and energy you spend researching by giving you the list of the healthiest organic body pillows.

Beyond that, you’ll have to choose your own preferences. I’ve got options for:

  • Organic cotton
  • Wool
  • Latex
  • Kapok

I’ve also included a variety of different shapes so you can choose what’s best for you!

This guide contains product recommendations and we may receive compensation if you purchase through certain links. As always, we only make recommendations that are genuine!

I know you probably just want the brand recs, so I’m going to give you those first.

But if you want to take a bit of a deeper dive into what exactly to look for in a safer body pillow, how I chose these brands, and what else to consider when shopping for a pillow, then scroll down.

Here are the brands I’d buy from for my non-toxic body pillow

Savvy Rest (best variety of options)

I love Savvy Rest’s natural bedroom goods. I have their Serenity Mattress and their Afton Bed Frame and I have zero regrets about choosing those.

First of all, it’s a small business and most of their products are made in the USA. Almost everything is made out of natural and organic materials, and they have various third-party certifications, including GOTS (for the organic cotton) and GREENGUARD Gold (to ensure the lowest VOCs).

In addition to all that, Savvy Rest gets my top pick when it comes to organic body pillows because of how many different options they have:

Their Organic Kapok Body Pillow is the softest option. Kapok is a super fluffy material that feels kind of like a cross between cotton and down (except it’s vegan).

Their Wool Body Pillow is best for people who sleep hot. Wool is a natural temperature regulator, which means it can help keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Or, if you want something more in the middle for softness and support, check out their Wool Latex Body Pillow. As you might guess from the name, it’s got fluffy wool that helps with temperature regulation combined with shredded latex to add some support that can respond to your body.

Then you’ve got the full Shredded Latex Pillow, which is the most supportive option. This one is going to conform to your body’s shape the most.

Each pillow comes with both a zippered flannel cover and and regular sateen pillow case that goes over top. You have the option of getting extra pillow cases with your order if you’d like.

Plus, you can further customize each one:

  • Do you want to remove some of the filling? No worries—each pillow comes overstuffed so you can use as much or as little stuffing as you’d like.
  • Do you want 15, 17, or 20-inch?
  • Do you want to add a waterproof protector, or not?

They all come with an unbleached, naturally-colored organic cotton pillow case.

Obasan (designed specifically for pregnancy)

A woman dressed in black rests comfortably on a bed while supported by a large, white U-shaped pregnancy pillow.

If you’re looking for an organic body pillow that is specifically designed for pregnancy, then Obasan is your way to go.

Their Organic Pregnancy Pillow was actually designed by osteopath and perinatal orthopedic therapist, Shauna Ironside.

It comes with twin crescent-shaped full-body pillows, which are detachable so that you can use it in different ways throughout different phases of pregnancy (and beyond!).

The front pillow supports your arms, belly, pelvis, hips, and legs to ease pelvic girdle pain, SI joint pain, sciatica, and lower back pain. The back pillow offers support, and pain relief and can help prevent back sleeping, which is not recommended during pregnancy.

Then after baby comes, you can unzip it and use the two separate pillows as regular body pillows, for nursing, or whatever works for you.

It’s GOTS and GOLS certified organic (for both the cotton and the latex).

BUT, if you just want a regular body pillow, they have that too. It’s a full-length pillow (20″ x 45″) that is stuffed with 100% organic wool, which can be adjusted to your comfort level.

Plus, you can personalize it with embroidery! I love this touch and think it could make a really nice gift for someone’s baby registry.

I have a couple of Obasan’s regular pillows and I love them!

Naturepedic

The photo shows a woman in blue pajamas sleeping on a bed while hugging a long, white organic cotton body pillow.

Naturepedic is another one of the best places to get all kinds of organic bedding essentials—mattresses, pillows, bed sheets, etc. They tend to have the highest number of third-party certifications, too—from GOTS organic to GREENGUARD Gold to MADE SAFE (which is one of my favorites because it looks at the safety of the entire product from a human health perspective).

They only have one body pillow at this time, which is made in the USA out of 100% GOLS- or FSC-certified latex on the inside and GOTS certified organic cotton for the cover.

It also comes with a 100-night sleep trial, a 1-year warranty, and free returns, making this a very low-risk purchase.

Circadian

The photo shows a white Circadian pillow with its natural, wool-like stuffing spilling out onto a rustic, live-edge wooden table in a sunlit room.

Circadian has body pillows that are filled with kapok, organic cotton, or wool.

The outer cover is made out of GOTS certified organic cotton sateen, so none of the materials used are synthetic.

They are adjustable, too, so you can add or remove stuffing to make them more or less soft or firm.

These pillows are also handmade in the USA with a completely transparent supply chain (Texas cotton → NJ mill → USA assembly). They also offer free shipping and a 60-night trial (with a 2% return rate), so there is very little risk if you want to give it a try.

(All of these pillows also come in Travel, Standard, Queen, or King sizes too. They also have buckwheat, latex, and hybrid pillows, but those ones are not available in body pillow size.)

Mini Camp

This Lithuania-based Etsy shop carries several different options for body and pregnancy pillows, including U-shaped ones (which can provide support for the belly and back simultaneously), C-shaped ones (which can be good for nursing), and regular long body pillows.

You can choose between several different covers, including plain and patterned options. Most of them are GOTS certified organic cotton. (But if you’re unsure about the specific one you want, don’t hesitate to reach out to the creator.) The inner cover of the pillow is made of 100% cotton.

You can also choose between two different fills: PES fiber balls or natural kapok. I recommend going with the kapok if you want to get an all-natural body pillow.

Even though the PES fiber balls are OEKO-TEX certified, they are just polyester, which is plastic.

Woolroom

Woolroom offers a rectangular body pillow as well as a V-shaped one, which can be great for reading, nursing, side-sleeping, etc.

These are made with organic cotton on the outside and wool on the inside. What sets this one apart is that it’s fully washable.

The V-shaped one actually comes in two versions: one that’s 100% organic and one that isn’t. The non-organic option is still all-natural, OEKO-TEX certified, and made with fully traceable wool. But it’s a more affordable option than the organic one.

Features include:

  • Completely natural and organic materials (free from any synthetics)
  • The filling is made out of 100% traceable British wool (you can scan the QR code for more info about where the wool came from)
  • Naturally hypoallergenic-approved by Allergy UK
  • Made in the EU

Still didn’t find the right organic cotton body pillow for you? Here are even more brands with great options:

Coyuchi: They have a Down Feather Lumbar Pillow, which is covered with an organic cotton casing and filled duck feathers and down from an Indiana duck farm that’s audited each year for animal welfare. They also had a U-shaped Organic Latex Body Pillow, but it is out of stock as of this writing.

The Futon Shop: They also have several good options, including a latex body pillow (available as certified organic or not), a wool body pillow (also in organic or non), organic cotton, or kapok.

Holy Lamb Organics: They have both all-natural (more affordable) and certified organic body pillows as well as neck rolls. The outer casing is made of organic cotton and the inside is made of wool. | Find on Amazon

How body pillows help you

For side sleepers: Hugging a body pillow between your arms and legs keeps your spine neutral and stops your hips from sagging. This means less strain on your lower back and hips, better pressure relief at key points like your shoulders and knees, and improved circulation since you’re distributing your weight more evenly. I have definitely experienced this myself!

For back sleepers: Place a body pillow under your knees or lower back to support your spine’s natural curve and take pressure off your lumbar region. This helps maintain proper alignment and can reduce lower back discomfort.

For stomach sleepers: Stomach sleeping isn’t ideal for your spine, but if you’re trying to transition to healthier positions, hugging a body pillow can help you gradually shift to side sleeping. Some stomach sleepers also use a thin pillow to slightly elevate their upper body and reduce neck strain.

Other health benefits for all sleepers:

  • Reduced snoring: Body pillows encourage side sleeping, which helps keep airways open and can reduce snoring—a win for you and your partner.
  • Better digestion: Side sleeping (especially on your left side) can help with digestion and reduce acid reflux, and body pillows make it easier to maintain that position all night.
  • Joint protection: Keeps your arms and legs in naturally open positions, which is especially helpful for people with arthritis or chronic joint pain.

During pregnancy: Expectant parents get much-needed support for the belly, back, and legs. Side sleeping becomes easier and more comfortable, which improves circulation to both you and your baby (especially important in the second and third trimesters).

Post-surgery or injury recovery: The extra support helps during healing, keeping you comfortable and preventing painful movements while you sleep. The pressure relief and elevation can reduce swelling and aid recovery.

For lounging: Body pillows aren’t just for sleep. They provide back and lumbar support for reading in bed, working on your laptop, watching TV, gaming, or any hobby that requires sitting up for a while.

Emotional comfort and nervous system regulation: Hugging a body pillow can promote relaxation and provide a sense of security. Research shows it can help release calming hormones like oxytocin, which reduces stress and anxiety. This can be particularly helpful for people dealing with ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, or PTSD.

Materials to look for in a non-toxic body pillow

Just like with regular-sized pillows, most conventional body pillows are made with plastic. We’re talking polyester or PU foam fill, polyester casings, etc. All of this can expose you to microplastics and VOCs while you sleep. We’re all trying to decrease our longterm exposures by taking small steps that are within our control, and swapping out your pillows is a great step to take (especially when you consider how many hours your body is against that pillow over the course of your life!).

Cotton: It might go without saying, but cotton is a natural, breathable, and hypoallergenic option that works for most people, regardless of things like whether or not you have sensitive skin or you’re vegan. Organic cotton is better because it’s grown and harvested without harmful pesticides and fertilizers, but conventional cotton is still a good option that tends to be more affordable and more widely available.

Wool: Wool sourced ethically-raised sheep is another good choice for body pillows because it is naturally fire-resistant, moisture-wicking, resistant to mold & dust mites, and temperature-regulating.

Kapok: Kapok is a natural fiber obtained from the seed pods of kapok trees. The texture is kind of like a cross between cotton and silk.

Latex: Latex (which is derived from the sap of rubber trees) is a supportive and resilient material for body pillows. This is going to give you the closest feeling to memory foam. GOLS organic latex is best.

Seriously, if you’re tired of waking up with nagging back pain or feeling discomfort during the night, consider giving an organic body pillow a try. It might be worth it!
