I consider myself “crunchy” in the sense that I prioritize healthy ingredients and habits in my everyday life, but that doesn’t mean I don’t also like putting on a full face of makeup and styling my hair for a night out! (Although, let’s be honest, as I get older, takeout and sweatpants are becoming more appealing).

I want gentle, natural skincare, but I also crave long-lasting makeup for versatile looks… That’s why I was excited to try Toups & Co!

I tested out their makeup and skincare, and they’ve honestly wowed me—the makeup stayed put past midnight on multiple outings, and my skin has been thriving with their products.

Collection of Toups & Co Organics skincare and makeup products, including liquid foundation, mascara, brightening tonic, tallow balm, soap bar, and small cosmetic containers on a granite counter.

My general thoughts

Toups & Co. offers a wide selection of natural and non-toxic skincare and makeup products using simple, wholesome ingredients. Their brand places a strong focus on nourishing, healthy formulas that are just as effective as they are safe.

After trying some of Toups & Co.’s natural personal care products, I’m a big fan of what they’re doing. Each product I tried was high-performing, and my skin reacted well to all of them (especially the French Green Clay Soap—one of my new faves).

An in-depth review on each of the products I tried

I recently tested a handful of Toups & Co.’s makeup and skincare, and I was impressed. (A few of them have even made their way into my everyday routine.

Here’s my experience with their products— my honest thoughts on each of them, and which ones are my favorite.

French Green Clay Soap

Price: $19

Toups & Co.’s French Green Clay Soap can be used for the face or the body to achieve a deep clean while hydrating the skin. Made with French green clay, coconut oil, and natural minerals, this cleanser fights blemishes with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties to clarify and detox the skin.

My take: I like that a little goes a long way with this cleanser. I’ve been using it daily for months, and still have so much product left. It also has a gentle floral scent that makes washing my face feel refreshing and luxurious

What I appreciate most about this soap is that it makes my face feel truly clean. I typically like to double cleanse, but even on nights when I can’t be bothered to do that, my skin still gets that deep clean (without feeling tight or dry).

I have an acne-prone complexion that’s also super dry (some may say I’m *extra blessed*), and my skin loves this cleanser.

Would I re-buy it? I will definitely be re-buying this face wash once I run out (which likely won’t be for a while, even though I use it daily!)

Not only are the ingredients non-toxic, but it provides a next-level clean feeling and I think it’s well worth the price.

Brighten Facial Tonic

Price: $26

Toups & Co carries several different variations of facial toner: Clear, Brighten, Hydrate, and Calm—so you can choose based on your skin concerns.

I tried the Brighten Tonic, which is formulated to bring life back into lackluster skin. It’s made with organic herbs like lemon peel, yarrow, and lady’s mantle to balance the skin’s pH and revive dull complexions while priming and cleansing the skin.

Celia’s take: I like using this facial tonic in conjunction with my morning moisturizer for a glowy finish. Many toners are drying, but this one feels hydrating and fresh, which I appreciate.

This formula is more gentle and soothing than most toners, so it’s a great option if you have sensitive skin.

Would I re-buy it? Yes, I would re-buy this product! It’s soothing and makes my complexion appear brighter without drying out my skin, which I love.

Abbie’s take: I decided to try the Hydrate Tonic, which contains hibiscus, peppermint, geranium, and blue algae help lock in moisture and restore hydration to the skin. It has a very subtle scent (almost not noticeable, tbh), which is just kind of light & refreshing.

Overall, I like it! I don’t think it’s life-changing, but it’s a great all-natural toner made with minimal ingredients.

Tallow Balms

Price: $32

Toups & Co.’s grass-fed tallow balm is made using whole-food nourishment, full of healthy fats and minerals to give your skin a boost. This whipped tallow is non-fractionated, which means that each ingredient remains in its whole form.

Made with essential oils like lavender and frankincense, this lightweight tallow balm offers a luxurious and refreshing skincare experience that deeply nourishes and supports the skin.

Celia’s take: This tallow balm is extremely lightweight and the scent is amazing— the lavender frankincense combo smells like it came straight out of a spa. The whipped texture is perfect for an everyday moisturizer, and it doesn’t break me out.

Would I re-buy it? Absolutely. The texture, scent, and quality of this tallow balm are perfect (in my opinion). It doesn’t break me out, and it’s a fantastic natural moisturizer if you’re looking to try something new.

A hand holds an open jar of Toups & Co. Organics Magnesium Balm above a granite countertop. The jars lid and the products box sit nearby on the counter.

Abbie’s take:

I’ll be honest: when tallow skincare become popular, I was skeptical. But after trying Toups & Co’s balms, I’m converted.

I love the way these balms feel on my skin. I can still tell a difference 24 hours later.

They offer multiple varieties: Original (mixed essential oils), Unscented, Vanilla + Almond, Sweet Girl (floral), Frankincense Face Balm, Baby Balm, Sun Balm (20% non-nano zinc oxide), and seasonal options like their Mistletoe balm. There’s also a Mini Balm Set for sampling.

(For the Baby Balm specifically, I’d just use the Unscented version instead. Skipping essential oils for infant skin is the safer choice.)

The scents are pleasant and well-balanced. Noticeable but not overpowering.

The whipped texture feels lightweight despite being deeply moisturizing. Fair warning: they are greasy, so I reserve them for nighttime use. That greasiness is also why I personally don’t use them on face. (Celia disagrees with me, though—she uses them on her face!)

They also launched a Magnesium Balm recently, which I’m alll about. I need all the help I can get falling asleep, so this really adds to my nighttime routine. I get softer skin and relaxation at the same time.

It can also help relieve period cramps and soothe sore muscles and joints. I’ve been using it on my husband’s neck and back. He struggles with neck pain as well as dry skin, so this Magnesium Balm has definitely been helping him.

The full-sized balms come in glass jars with aluminum lids (plastic-free). The Mini Balm Set uses small plastic containers.

Would I repurchase? Already have.

Liquid Foundation

Price: $48

Formulated with shea butter, aloe vera leaf juice, and herb extracts, this liquid foundation doubles as skincare to promote a softer, healthier complexion.

Made for sensitive and acne-prone skin, this formula is lightweight, breathable, and long-lasting with natural SPF from non-nano titanium dioxide.

My take: I’ve tried my fair share of foundations (both non-toxic and conventional), and this one’s up there for the best coverage

This foundation is lightweight enough for a natural look with one layer, but builds and blends easily if you’re looking for a heavy-duty finish. It has a subtle sweet scent that fades after a few minutes (even though I personally like it!), and it lasts all day without getting cakey or fading.

Would I re-buy it? This foundation is on the pricier side, but I still think it’s worth re-buying. Finding a quality natural foundation can be tricky, and this one is buildable, lightweight, and stays all day

It’s perfect for hot summer months, but the formula is so hydrating that I feel confident keeping it in my rotation this winter.

Natural Pressed Blush

Price: $28

Toups & Co.’s Natural Pressed Blush is deeply pigmented for a long-lasting flush of color. Made for sensitive skin, this formula seamlessly glides on and blends with other makeup for easy application. With four shades ranging from subtle pink to rusty rose, this pressed blush is a fuss-free way to achieve a subtle pop of color.

My take: I’m a big believer in the power of a good blush, and this is a good blush. Most mineral blushes that I’ve tried are loose powders (which tend to get all over the place), so I appreciate that this blush is pressed.

I picked the shade Dusty Rose, and I love the natural pigment that it provides. It’s long-lasting, easy to apply, and provides a beautiful, healthy-looking finish.

Would I re-buy it? Yes! This passes my test for long-lasting wear, which is an important benchmark for non-toxic makeup (especially when it comes to blush).

If you’re looking for stunning color that lasts all day, this may be your new favorite clean blush.

Natural Eyeliner

a picture of a natural black eyeliner of Toups and Co.

Price: $28

This cream gel eyeliner is made with castor oil, rosemary, and thyme leaf to seamlessly apply without budging. Toups & Co.’s natural eyeliner formula boosts eyelash health and protects the eyes (even for those with sensitive skin). Offered in both black and brown, this gel liner is perfect for a wide range of looks.

Celia’s take: This eyeliner is such a win. It glides right on but doesn’t swipe off easily (sometimes it’s hard to find an eyeliner that can do both!)

I tried the brown shade, which has a gorgeous, rich chocolate hue (it’s perfect for a natural-ish-looking smokey eye). The creamy formula allows for more control during application and can be used to create thin lines or build up a more intense look.

Although I had already been wearing and loving this liner, I decided to put it to the test by washing my hands with soap to see if it would budge. Somehow, the liner remained perfectly intact. (Don’t worry; it comes off with a makeup remover!)

a picture of a hand with a swatch of the eyeliner

I’ve also used this liner to fill my brows many times, and have never experienced it fading too soon or looking unnatural. All around, I adore this eyeliner!

Would I re-buy it? I will 100% be re-buying this eyeliner. It’s a staple in my makeup collection, and I’ve fallen in love with using brown eyeliner instead of black for a softer look.

Abbie’s take:

I bought the brown eyeliner as well, and I really like it! It goes on really smooth and stays on all day. I will say that the tip gets dull pretty quickly, so if you like a really sharp & crisp line, you do have to sharpen the pencil relatively frequently. That said, I would buy it again.

Long Lash Mascara

Price: $26

Toups & Co.’s Long Lash Mascara boosts volume and length while improving lash health and promoting growth. This lengthening mascara is made to fight flakes, clumps, and fallout without causing irritation for all-day wear.

My take: I was kind of taken aback by the short wand of this mascara, but I actually like how much control it gives me during application.

This mascara makes my lashes look much longer without feeling too heavy. It also wears well throughout the day. It doesn’t rub off easily or end up under my eyes by lunchtime like some other mascaras. I’m a big fan!

Would I re-buy it? Yes—this is a great non-toxic mascara! It doesn’t get clumpy or raccoon-y (which is my biggest qualm with some natural mascaras) and lasts all day without flaking or irritating my eyes. Plus, it makes a huge difference in the length of my lashes.

Cream Luminizer Pot

an opened jar of Cream Luminizer Pot

Price: $28

This cream highlighter is designed to bring warmth and glow to any complexion. Packaged in a convenient glass pot, this buttery formula is easy to apply using just your fingertips. Made with hydrating ingredients like vitamin E and jojoba seed oil, this highlighter nourishes and brightens the skin for a healthier complexion.

My take: As we head into the winter months, I’m clinging onto my summer glow for as long as humanly possible—and this highlighter is helping with that. It provides the most gorgeous, subtle glow-from-within look. I tried it in Champagne, and it has the prettiest golden undertones.

I regularly use it on the high points of my face and my collarbones for a natural-looking hint of radiance. It just gives that “something something” I’m looking for! The formula itself is creamy, buildable, and blends in effortlessly.

Would I re-buy it? I would re-buy this cream highlighter for sure. I love that it comes in a little pot (powder highlighters can be so messy!) and it’s easy to apply. Even though the finish is subtle, the glow that it provides really does make a difference.

Clean Contour Kit

Price: $88

Another one of The Filtery’s contributors, Lauren Albrecht, also recently tried Toups & Co’s 3-piece Contour Kit, which you can see in action here. It comes with a concealer, a cream cheek tint, and a bronzer.

Lauren’s take: I love how this concealer melts into my skin instead of just sitting on top the way some concealers do. It’s so creamy!

I love the bronzer & cheek tint, too. They have great pigment to them and a little goes a long way.

Overall, these 3 products feel very *high-end*, which is maybe a little bit surprising considering they’re made from all-natural ingredients! The makeup lasted all day, but was still pretty easy to take off at night.

I also just generally like knowing that my makeup comes from a small, family-owned business and that it’s made with a minimal list of recognizable ingredients.

Would I re-buy it? Yes, I will be re-buying this set and adding it to my regular makeup routine. In fact, I’ve already re-purchased a couple of things!

Lip Gloss & Lip Balm

Price range: $6-$32

Abbie’s take:

They carry several different kinds of lip products: regular lipsticklip gloss, lip balm (tinted and non-tinted/chapstick-style), multi-purpose cheek/lip stick

Their glosses come in a range of reds and pinks and are infused with things like nourishing castor oil, organic jojoba oil, and shea butter. Almost all of their ingredients are natural and/or certified organic. (Nothing artificial.)

I find their tinted lip gloss to be a bit more matte compared to other brands. So I’d say it’s actually more like a cross between a lip gloss and a lipstick. Their clear gloss, though, is definitely glossier. It has a nice texture to it; it’s kind of midweight. Not to heavy, not too light.

Now, their chapstick-style lip balm—I love. I’ve tried several different flavors, including the Herbal Mint, the limited edition Candy Cane, an Citrus. So far, I haven’t found one I dislike. I really like the texture of these balms. They just glide on so smooth.

The only complaint I have about these lip products is that they are packaged in plastic and currently there is no refillable option.

Would I re-buy it? I’d definitely re-buy the lip balm (I already have). Maybe not the gloss though.

I haven’t tried their regular lipstick yet.

“Flawless Face” Makeup Primer

Bottle of Toups & Co Flawless Face Primer standing next to its box on a granite countertop.

Price: $52

Abbie’s take: I really like this primer.

I actually haven’t been super into primer in the past (I’m too much of a minimalist? It wasn’t really a thing when I was first learning how to use makeup?)… But I really like using this one.

I do feel like it makes my skin feel a little bit softer after putting all my makeup on. It helps to just smooth everything out. It also has the slightest tacky texture, which I’m sure helps to make the foundation and other products stick and last longer.

It does not change the overall texture or feel of my skin in terms of making it more dry or oily. I do, however, like that it doubles as a moisturizer! I haven’t tried using it for that purpose (too expensive, lol), but I like that it can do double duty, not only serving as a primer but moisturizing and nourishing my skin at the same time.

Would I re-buy it? For sure.

Body Polish

Open jar of Toups & Co Organics Body Polish with yellow scrub inside, sitting on a granite bathroom counter next to its gray product box.

Price: $52

Abbie’s Take:

This stuff is luscious! The exfoliation it provides is on the gentler side—it’s not super rough. But it definitely leaves my skin feeling noticeably smoother and more moisturized. It’s pretty thick, so a little goes a long way. I’ve been using it to prevent razor burn and ingrown hairs, and I do think it helps! They say it can also help with dull and dry skin, eczema, and lymphatic support.

Sugar is the main ingredient they use for the exfoliator. Then they add 100% grass-fed tallow (sourced from regenerative farming partners in the southeast US), and several other nourishing plant oils.

Would I re-buy it? Hmm… $52 is steep for me personally for a body exfoliator (which I view as a kind of ‘non-essential’ body care product). So, I would buy it again, but only as a special treat or a gift for someone. Not necessarily on a regular basis.

I will say, though, that the 7 oz jar does go a long way. So I do feel like you’re getting a good amount of product for the price.

Vitamin C Serum

Price: $110

Abbie’s Review:

My dermatologist is all about the vitamin C serum. Sometimes it can be difficult to tell what’s just a (semi-useless) trend and what’s actually beneficial.

I think vitamin C serums are for real.

Our skin is constantly being inundated with exposure to environmental toxins. Not just things like air pollution, but also blue light. (Hello, I look at a computer screen ALL DAY.)

These exposures can add up over time and lead to skin that ages faster.

And so, as I head toward middle age, I’m trying to be better about taking small steps to prevent signs of aging.

Putting a vitamin C serum on in the morning can help protect skin as you go about your day. Toups & Co uses whole food sources of vitamins and antioxidants for their formulation. This can not only help with protection against environmental factors, but also with dark spots, dull skin, and uneven tone.

I really like the way this serum makes my skin feel. So smooth!

It’s definitely an investment at over 100 bucks, but you don’t have to use that much each day. A jar should last you a while.

Resurfacing Mask

Open jar of Toups & Co Organics Resurfacing Mask on a granite countertop, with lid placed beside it.

Price: $58

Abbie’s Take:

Texture-wise, this feels kind of like putting toothpaste on your face. 😆 Not saying it’s a bad thing—just telling you what it’s like!

The main ingredient is raw honey, which is has multiple skin benefits (anti-inflammation, moisturization, exfoliating, etc.), but is also super gentle for people with sensitive skin. (Also, if you end up getting some of this mask on your lips and licking it off—it tastes good!)

Some of the other ingredients include blue algae extract, AHA fruit acid, and kaolin clay. All together, these ingredients are meant to help reduce puffiness, calm inflammation, smooth wrinkles, and just generally give skin more of a glow.

What I like about this mask is that it’s not harsh at all. You can use it up to three times a week. I do feel like it left my skin softer after the first use, although the difference was subtle. I could see how being consistent and using it regularly could probably really make a difference in the skin’s overall appearance. (Maybe I’ll try to actually be consistent with it and update this again later!)

Would I re-buy it? For me personally, I think if I’m going to spend that much money on a resurfacing mask, I’m going to buy something a little *stronger* (like this one). That said, if you have really sensitive skin, are pregnant, or just want something you can use more frequently, then I would definitely recommend giving this Toups & Co. one a try. Overall, I do like it!

Everything Bar

Toups & Co Organics Everything Bar soap displayed on a granite bathroom counter with its white packaging behind it.

Price: $19

Abbie’s Take:

The best way to describe this bar of soap is extremely practical and functional.

Lately, I’ve been using it as both a body wash and a face wash. It lathers really well (which is not always the case for non-toxic soap). It just gets the job done, leaving my skin feeling clean without drying it out.

There are literally only two ingredients: Organic Virgin Coconut Oil and Organic Grapefruit Essential Oil.

The description says it comes with “a subtle citrus scent”, but to be totally honest, I don’t really smell it. It’s pretty dang close to fragrance-free to me.

I will definitely be taking this soap the next time we travel. I love having a multi-purpose bar soap because it means I, a) can pack fewer products overall, and b) don’t have to worry as much about liquids spilling and making a mess. I haven’t tried it yet, but I would definitely try to use this everything soap as a handwashing laundry detergent while traveling as well.

I think this bar soap would also be really good for:

  • minimalists and zero-wasters who just like to use fewer, functional products
  • men who don’t really care that much about personal care and just want simple, straightforward products that work

Would I re-buy it? For sure.

More Bar Soaps!

Price: $19

Abbie’s take:

At this point, I think I’ve now tried every type of bar soap that Toups & Co carries. That includes the French Green Clay (which Celia loves—she covered that above), Lavender Tallow, Activated Charcoal, Everything Soap, and limited edition holiday bars, like the Vanilla + Peppermint pictured above.

I honestly really like all of them.

The Activated Charcoal one, as you can probably guess, I mostly use as a purifying face wash. It’s a gentle exfoliator that helps to clear pores, but the tallow and coconut oil prevents it from being as drying as other charcoal face washes. I like to use it in the morning to really leave my face feeling fresh.

The Lavender Tallow is the softest of all of them—it literally feels soft. I’ve used it as both a face wash and a body wash. It’s only got three ingredients: 100% grass-fed tallow, purple brazilian clay, and lavender essential oil.

The Vanilla + Peppermint was really nice too. I hope they bring it back next holiday season. It was very refreshing and my skin loves the gentle exfoliation. I used it more for a body wash, not really as a face wash.

Would I re-buy it: Overall, yes. These bar soaps are definitely on the more expensive side, so if I’m on a budget, then I would probably just use them for a face wash and use something cheaper for my body wash. (I do always cut my bar soaps up into quarters though, to make them last longer!) But I’d buy one of the limited edition bars as a treat.

Body Wash

Price: $20-24

Abbie’s Take:

The side of the body wash bottle says: “Just the basics. Gentle nourishment for sensitive skin.” And I would say that’s very true. This body wash is nothing amazing, but it definitely gets the job done. It has a light scent and a moderate amount of lather.

My husband (who has sensitive skin) likes the Men’s Body Wash too, which has hints of citrus and spruce. They also have an option for babies!

Would I re-buy it? In general, yes. But I definitely wish there was less plastic involved, so I would be more likely to go with something like Plaine Products for our body wash refills.

Deodorant

Price: $20

Abbie’s Review:

So far, I’ve only tried the Lemongrass + Mint scent (they also have Unscented, Lime + Bergamot, Balsam Fir + Cedarwood, and Lavender). I do like the Lemongrass + Mint smell—it’s refreshing but subtle.

I’ve tried it in both Regular (no baking soda; better for sensitive skin) and Extra Strength.

Honestly, both of these deodorants work well for me, and I’m actually a little bit surprised that the Regular one works as well as it does. It does have a bit of a tacky texture, which is not uncommon for natural deodorants. This means it doesn’t go on super smoothly and it takes a few minutes for it to absorb enough so that my underarms don’t feel sticky. But it’s not a big deal to me at all.

I think the Extra Strength one could be good for men to try as well. (My husband hasn’t tried it yet, but I’ll add his review if he does.)

Would I re-buy it? Yes. Definitely not the cheapest price tag for deodorant, but that’s pretty normal for all-natural deo these days.

Dry Shampoo

A jar of Toups & Co Organics Dry Shampoo for dark hair sits open on a granite countertop, with its lid off to the side. A makeup brush and a black cylindrical container are positioned nearby.

Price: $44 (with the applicator brush) or $30 (without the applicator brush)

Abbie’s review:

Their dry shampoo comes in two options: one for blondes (which is very white) and one for darker hair. I have the one for dark hair. It’s still pretty light in color, but it blends in pretty easily. (My hair is like medium-darkness though, so I’m not sure how it would work for super dark hair.)

There are very few ingredients in this all-natural dry shampoo: Organic Arrowroot Powder, Kaolin Clay, Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Ho wood oil, Organic Cacao Powder (for dark hair only).

Overall, I really like it! I like that it comes with a brush that makes application a lot easier, less messy, and just helps it to blend into my hair better. I usually dip the brush into the jar of powder, then tap it out onto the upside down lid so that I’m not putting too much into one spot on my head at once.

This dry shampoo works well to absorb oils, but I will say that if you’re just switching to all-natural dry shampoo for the first time (from the conventional aerosol spray), it might take some getting used to. It doesn’t provide as much volume as conventional options, and it does require a little bit of a learning curve to apply it. I’ve gotten used to it at this point though, do I don’t mind!

Would I re-buy it? Yes. (Although, if you’re on a budget, you could DIY this pretty easily.)

Are there any ingredients of concern with Toups & Co?

Toups & Co. only uses natural ingredients, however, they do use essential oils in their formulas. Essential oils aren’t associated with serious health concerns, but they can be potentially irritating for sensitive skin.

If you have a history of adverse reactions to essential oils (or just sensitive skin in general), I’d check the ingredients before buying and do a patch test before putting anything on your face, just to be safe.

A quick primer on which ingredients to avoid in your skincare & makeup

Unfortunately, there are many questionable chemicals used in makeup and skincare nowadays (but luckily, Toups & Co. uses none of these). Here’s a short list of common skincare and makeup ingredients to keep an eye out for that are potentially toxic:

  • Butylated Compounds
  • Carbon Black
  • Ethanolamines (DEA, MEA, TEA)
  • Formaldehyde Releasers (Formaldehyde isn’t used much in personal care products anymore, but formaldehyde releasers are common preservatives in skincare and makeup. This includes chemicals like diazolidinyl urea, imidazolidinyl urea, polyoxymethylene urea, quaternium-15, DMDM hydantoin, bromopol, or sodium hydroxymethylglycinate.)
  • Heavy Metals (like lead)
  • Parabens
  • PEGs (and other “ethoxylated” ingredients)
  • Petrolatum
  • PFAs
  • Mineral Oil
  • Resorcinol
  • Undisclosed Fragrance (which often includes phthalates)
  • Sulfates (if you have sensitive skin)
  • Talc

What sets Toups & Co apart?

    1. Some of their products are totally cruelty-free and vegan. Many of them do contain animal ingredients (like tallow or beeswax) though. They say they source these ingredients from regenerative farms, where the grass-fed cows are allowed to roam, etc.

  1. Good Morning,
Is Toups & Co cruelty-free? Do they test on animals? I couldn’t find anything in your review.
    Thank you,
    Linda

    1. Hey Linda! You can see under the potential ‘cons’ that it’s NOT a vegan brand. It’s not certified cruelty-free, but they don’t test on animals. On their About page, it says they source from farms where the animals are treated ethically. https://toupsandco.com/pages/about
